Seattle, Wash. – Rising senior outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) has been selected to participate in Beyond Sports' Third Annual Costa Rica Volleyball Tour from May 22-30 in the Central American country of Costa Rica. She will join a team of all-conference selections and statistical leaders from across the United States to play against the Costa Rica National Volleyball Team and other top club teams.
In addition to the competition component of the trip, athletes will also provide sports clinics for Costa Rican youth. One clinic will be held at a local school in San Jose, the capital of the country, and another will be in partnership with Special Olympics of Costa Rica.
The group will also get a chance to explore the country by visiting the Manuel Antonio National Park and Volcano Arenal during the tour where they will have opportunities to zip-line through the rain forest, learn to surf, and encounter wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, toucans and iguanas.
Lee, a three-time All-Centennial Conference second time selection in volleyball, has tallied 941 kills and 953 digs during her career with the Shorewomen. She led the team this past season in kills per set (3.26) and aces per set (0.47), while ranking second on the squad in digs per set (3.15) and third in hitting percentage (.193). She averaged 3.87 points per set in 2014.
Beyond Sports, founded in 2010, is the first study abroad program designed specifically for student-athletes. To date, they have hosted athletes from over 140 different colleges across the country through summer, Jan-term and semester programs in Costa Rica.
