Shorewomen Best Red Devils In Four Sets For First CC Win

Team Hits .342 in Victory

CARLISLE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College hit .342 as the Shorewomen downed host Dickinson in four sets (25-13, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15) at the Kline Center on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference volleyball match.  The Shorewomen improve to 16-7 overall and 1-5 in the Centennial, while the Red Devils fall to 5-12 and 1-6 respectively.

In the first set, Washington scored the first seven points and never trailed in recording a 12-point set win.  The set ended on an attack error by Dickinson.  The Shorewomen hit .320 in the first set.

The Shorewomen went on a 14-4 run to turn a 7-7 tie into a 21-11 lead on a kill by freshman setter Taylor Horan (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma).  A finisher by freshman middle hitter Alaina Geissberger (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) ended the second set for an 11 point WC victory.  The guests hit .357 in the set.

In the third set, Dickinson broke a 23-23 tie by winning the final two points of the set to keep the match going.  A service ace by Lauren Ahern clinched the third set for the Red Devils.  The hosts withstood an 8-3 run by the Shorewomen that turned a 20-15 lead by the hosts into a 23-23 tie.

Washington led 13-10 in the fourth set before going on a 12-5 run to close the set and the match.  A kill by sophomore right-side hitter Alexis Jordan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge) ended the set and the match.  The Shorewomen hit .407 in the fourth set.

Washington has now won three of the last four and two straight over Dickinson.  It is the first time the Shorewomen have won consecutive matches from the Red Devils since eight in a row from 1991-98.

Junior outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) had 18 kills and nine digs in the win for WC, while junior middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) had 10 kills and hit .474.  Horan had 44 assists and 10 digs for a double-double and led the team in both categories, including match-best in assists.  Sophomore defensive specialist Audrey Utchen (San Ramon, Calif./Monte Vista) had four aces to lead all players and Washington had 14 aces as a team.

For Dickinson, Lauren Beecher had 10 kills to lead the Red Devils, while Jenn Morrissey handed out 35 assists to top the hosts.  Arielle Misrok had 12 digs to lead all players.

Washington travels to Ursinus for a 7:30 p.m. conference match on Wednesday evening.
