LEXINGTON, Ky. -- For the second year in a row, the Washington College volleyball program has qualified for the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
The Shorewomen were one of a record 676 teams to earn the award for the 2013-14 academic year. The award "honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale," as mentioned in a press release from the AVCA.
In addition to having an outstanding year in the classroom in 2013-14, the Shorewomen are coming off one of their best-ever seasons. Washington finished the 2013 season 19-9 in Jamie Leventry's first year as head coach, its best win-loss record since 1977.
The Shorewomen will open their 2014 season August 29th and 30th at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic.
