LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today in a tri-match hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The Shorewomen (11-14, 3-5 Centennial) dropped their first match of the day to the Centennial Conference rival Diplomats (15-12, 7-1 Centennial), 25-17, 25-12, 25-20, before dropping a non-conference match to St. Mary's (MD), 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22.
F&M hit an impressive .354 as a team in its three-set sweep of the Shorewomen, pounding down 46 kills against just 11 errors in 99 attempts. Candice Tussing led a balanced offense with 10 kills to go along with seven digs, while Sydney Seydel had nine kills and Rosalie Frank had eight against no errors in 15 attempts. Julie Harvey had eight kills of her own, along with a match-best three blocks. Caroline Hubbard tallied 39 assists for the Diplomats. Freshman outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, MD/River Hill) led the Shorewomen with seven kills and 10 digs, while freshman middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) added five kills for Washington.
St. Mary's got a match-high 14 kills from Michelle Klima in the Seahawks' win over the Shorewomen. Mandy Goodspeed added 12 kills and three blocks, while Shelby Mullennix had eight kills and a match-best five blocks. Grace Chao had a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs, while Bianca Livioco and Jenn Rindone had 18 and 15 digs, respectively. Rindone's 18 were a match high. Kristin Lee led Washington with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Daunoras pounded down 11 kills against one error in 19 attempts. Sophomore libero Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and senior defensive specialist Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) had 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) tallied 33 assists and nine digs against the Seahawks.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford.
