ARLINGTON, VA – Host Marymount University took the first two sets en route to a four-set victory, 3-1, (25-17, 25-16, 12-25, 25-20) over visiting Washington College at Verizon Sports Arena in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday evening.  Both teams are now 2-3 on the season.

In the first set, the Shorewomen led 9-8 before the Saints went on a 12-1 run to take a 20-10 lead following an attack error by Washington.  A service ace by Melissa Warren for Marymount closed out the opening set and a victory for the hosts in the first set.

Marymount led 12-11 in the second set when they used a 10-1 run to grab a 22-12 lead on an attack error by the Shorewomen.  A service miscue by the guests ended the middle set and gave the Saints a 2-0 lead in the match. 

In the third set, the Shorewomen came out strong winning seven of the first eight points to take control of the set.  Washington eventually built its lead to 22-11 following an attack blunder by the Saints.  A kill by sophomore Sarah Beresik (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) capped the third set and cut Marymount's lead to 2-1. 

In the fourth set, Marymount jumped out to an 8-6 lead before Washington went on a 5-1 run to grab an 11-9 lead following an attack error by the hosts.  The Saints took a 23-17 lead on a Morgan McAlpin kill, but Washington grabbed the next three points to cut the lead to 23-20 following a hitting miscue by the hosts.  However, the Saints scored the next two points to win the set and the match.  Marymount clinched the match on a McAlpin service ace.

Jenn Forbes and Johanna Hummel each had 10 kills to lead all players as they recorded 20 of the 39 kills by the Saints on the evening.  Cassidie Watson had a match-topping 21 digs, while Michelle McCormick added 13 digs.  McCormick led all participants with four service aces.  Warren just missed a double-double handing out 31 assists to for tops in the contest, while netting nine digs.  Forbes had four blocks to tie for match-high.

For the Shorewomen, freshman outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, MD/River Hill) had seven kills to lead WC and was one of three players with a team-best 13 digs.  Joining Kristin Lee with 13 digs was sophomore defensive specialists Cara Koontz (Howard County, MD/Marriotts Ridge) and Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park).  Freshman middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) had six kills and tied for tops in the contest with four blocks.  Junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) had 26 assists to lead the team and added eight digs.  She netted her 200th kill of her career in the first set on an unassisted kill to trim the Saints' lead to 12-10. 

Marymount had 11 aces in the win, compared to just four for Washington.  The Shorewomen had eight blocks to the Saints' seven.  Marymount hit .074 in the win, while WC hit .016 in the setback.

The Shorewomen return to the court on Friday with a pair of matches at Muhlenberg's Buttermaker Tournament in Allentown, PA.  WC plays DeSales at 5:00 p.m. and Elizabethtown at 7:00 p.m.
