Washington Falls to Messiah and Gallaudet
GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the season this evening at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic The Shorewomen lost their first match of the day, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, to Messiah, and their second match to Gallaudet, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22.
Against Messiah, senior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) led the way for the Shorewomen with nine kills and four blocks. Junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) added five kills and no errors to go along with 17 assists. Freshman middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) tacked on six kills and freshman outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, MD/River Hill) turned in 11 digs. Megan Myers paced Messiah with 10 kills, Lindsay King had seven kills and eight digs, and Jessica Geib had 31 assists, four kills, and seven digs.
Kristin Lee paced the Shorewomen with eight kills and 11 digs against Gallaudet. Daunoras added five kills and three blocks, while White added 17 assists and five digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) contributed nine digs. Gallaudet was led by Kali Frowick (12 kills, nine digs) and Ann Whited (11 kills, seven digs). Sarah Tubert added 36 assists and five digs for the Bison.
The Shorewomen conclude play at the Battlefield Classic tomorrow with a 10:00 a.m. match against Cedar Crest and a 2:00 p.m. match against Penn State-Harrisburg.
