White, Lee and Rowan To Serve As Captains
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Washington College volleyball head coach Lacey Lister has named three captains for the 2012 season. The trio of junior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) and seniors, middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) and defensive specialist Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) will serve as captains for the Shorewomen this year. White was a captain for the squad last year.
White, a captain for the second consecutive season, had 737 assists (7.68 assists per set) and also recorded 268 digs, 40 service aces and seven blocks while playing in all 28 matches in 2011. The junior had nine double-doubles and one triple-double as a sophomore. She recorded her triple-double with 12 kills, 27 assists and 12 digs against Catholic on October 22, 2011.
Lee, a captain for the first time, had 249 kills (2.34 kills per set), 139 digs, 75 service aces and 63 blocks last season and led the Shorewomen in aces and blocks. She is a two-time All-Centennial Conference honorable mention pick and was the squad's Most Valuable Player. Lee, who played in all 28 contests, registered four double-doubles in 2011.
Rowan, a captain for the first time, had 114 digs and 22 service aces last year while playing in 26 matches. She averaged 1.61 digs per set and 0.31 aces per set. Rowan added 14 assists in her junior season. She has 602 career digs and added 86 aces in her three seasons with the Shorewomen.
The Shorewomen open up the 2012 season tomorrow against Messiah and Gallaudet at Gettysburg College's Battlefield Classic at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively.
