Shorewomen Get First Win Over Dickinson Since 1998

Washington's Four-Set Win Ends 14-Match Skid in Series

CARLISLE, PA -- Visiting Washington College bounced back after losing the first set to post a 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-18, win over host Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference volleyball match tonight in Carlisle, PA. With the win, the Shorewomen (12-9, 1-5 Centennial) snapped a 14-match losing streak to the Red Devils (3-15, 1-5).

Washington's win was its first over Dickinson since a five-set victory in 1998.  In fact, Washington's second-set triumph marked the first time the Shorewomen had won a set against the Red Devils since a 3-1 loss in 2005.

Washington opened the first set by scoring five straight points, but a five-point Dickinson run with the score tied at 17-17 gave the Red Devils a 22-17 advantage and an eventual 25-20 set win. In the second set, the Shorewomen held a 16-12 lead before running off six straight points to take control of the set and going on to even the match with a 25-17 set win. In the third set, Washington ran off to a 14-4 lead and never looked back, posting another 25-17 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Shorewomen wasted no time jumping out to a big lead in the fourth set, either, running off nine of the first 10 points. Washington led by at least four points the rest of the set, winning the match with a 25-18 set win. Washington hit .455 in the final set, pounding down 11 kills against just one error in 22 attempts.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Bell (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) recorded her fourth double-double of the season in the win for the Shorewomen, sharing match-high honors with 13 kills and scooping out 11 digs.  She also served a career-high five aces.  Sophomore outside hitter Emily Hoyle (Santa Rita, Guam/Guam) added a career-high tying eight kills, while junior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) finished with seven. Freshman libero Kate Liccione (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) recorded a match-high 19 digs for the Shorewomen, while sophomore setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) tallied 29 assists and six kills.

Liz Norris paced Dickinson by matching Bell's total of 13 kills and adding eight digs. Grace Morgan had a double-double for the Red Devils with a match-high 31 assists and a team-high 16 digs, while Avery Zuvic had seven kills and shared match-high honors in aces with Bell by serving five.

The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a non-conference tri-match at Hood. Washington will take on Bryn Athyn at 1:00 p.m. and the host Blazers at 3:00 p.m.
