Washington Sweeps Notre Dame of Maryland & Cedar Crest
ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Washington College volleyball team won a pair of matches in a tri-match hosted by Cedar Crest College this afternoon. The Shorewomen (9-7) opened the day with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-7 sweep of Notre Dame University of Maryland and then swept the host school, 25-15, 25-20, 25-14.
Against Notre Dame, the Shorewomen scored the first seven points of the first set, first five of the second set, and the first five of the third set. Junior middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) served 13 points in a row for the Shorewomen in the third set as Washington finished that match on a 15-1 run. Lee served six of the team's 19 aces in the match, while sophomore setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MDHuntingtown) added five aces to go along with four kills and 20 assists. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Bell (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) had team bests of six kills and eight digs to go with two aces. Junior defensive specialist Rita Rivera (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) served four aces and added seven digs.
Marylu Ortiz led the Gators in ills with six, while Tawny Cevora served three aces and had a match-best 11 digs.
Against Cedar Crest, the Shorewomen hit .297 as a team, including .394 (15 kills, two errors, 33 attempts) in the third set. Bell tallied a match-best 11 kills and a team-high 13 digs while committing just two attacking errors in 29 attempts. White added 26 assists and seven kills against no errors on 12 attempts.
Debra Lobien had seven kills for the Falcons, while Nikole Johnson had a match0best 14 digs.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
