Red Devils Leave Shorewomen In The Cold, 3-0

Daelemans Leads All Players With 16 Digs

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Grace Morgan had a match-high 26 assists and added 14 digs to record a double-double as visiting Dickinson College swept host Washington College, 3-0, (25-21, 25-17, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference volleyball action.  The Red Devils close out the year at 6-16 overall and 3-7 in the conference, while the Shorewomen finish 10-20 and 2-8 respectively.  It was the season finale for both sides.

In the first set, Dickinson led 20-15 before Washington rolled off four straight points to cut the lead to 20-19 on a kill by senior middle hitter Maria Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern).  However, the Red Devils scored five of the final seven points to win the opening set on a service ace by Kaylee Britain.

WC led 15-14 in the middle set following a service error by Dickinson, but Dickinson went on an 11-2 run to grab the second set.  An attack error by the Shorewomen gave the Red Devils a 16-15 lead and the guests would win the next six points to take a 22-15 lead.  After Washington won the next two points to cut it to 22-17, Dickinson won the last three points to win the set.  An attack error by WC ended the second set.

Washington took a 12-5 lead in the third set on a Whitman kill.  Dickinson would win seven of the next 10 points to level the set at 15-15 on a kill by Avery Zuvic.  Zuvic would give the Red Devils their first lead of the third set at 18-17.  A kill by Liz Norris gave Dickinson the lead for good at 19-18.  The Red Devils would score of the final seven points, including the last five points to win the set and the match.

Zuvic led all players with 14 kills and hit .314 in the match.  Joanna DeCastro served up a match-topping eight aces as Dickinson recorded 14 aces total in the match.

Senior defensive specialist/libero Traci Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern) had 16 digs to lead all participants, while freshman setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) handed out 22 assists.  Freshman Emily Hoyle (Santa Rita, Guam/Guam) hit .385 in the match and had zero attacking errors.

Today was the final match for Washington seniors Daelemans and Whitman.
