Lee Registers Sixth Double-Double of the Season

Chestertown, MD – Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a match-best 14 kills along with 13 digs, while also serving up a match-high four aces, as Washington College swept visiting Ursinus, 3-0, (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) on Wednesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference volleyball action.  Washington improves to 10-15 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Ursinus falls to 8-13 and 1-5 respectively.

The Shorewomen and Bears were tied 7-7 in the opening before the Shorewomen scored five straight points to grab a 12-7 lead on a Lee service ace.  The Bears cut the lead to 16-15 on a Washington attack error, but the hosts scored five unanswered points to take a 21-15 lead on a Lee kill.  A kill by senior middle hitter Maria Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern) clinched the opening set for WC by a 25-19 margin.

Ursinus took a 19-14 lead in the second set on a kill by Anahi McIntyre and led Washington to call a timeout.  Out of the timeout, the Shorewomen scored seven consecutive points to grab a 21-19 lead on a Whitman kill and that led to a timeout by the Bears.  Ursinus won four of the next six points to tie the set at 23-23 on a kill by Mary Kate Wilmoth.  However Washington would benefit from two attack errors by Ursinus on the next points to take the set, 25-23.

Washington raced out to a 6-1 lead in the third set, but Ursinus would cut it to 15-12 on a WC service error.  The Shorewomen would take control of the set by going on an 8-1 run to take a 23-13 lead on a service ace by senior defensive specialist/libero Traci Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern).  Washington clinched the set and the match on a Lee kill.

Whitman joined Lee in double figures in kills with 10 and hit .333 in the match for the Shorewomen.  Freshman setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) led all players with 29 assists and hit .417 in the victory as she added five kills.  Sophomore defensive specialist Rita Rivera (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had a match-best 15 digs, while sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) added 10 digs.

The Shorewomen have now won consecutive conference matches for the first time since October 2006 when they downed Bryn Mawr and Ursinus in back-to-back contests.
