CHESTERTOWN, MD – Washington College volleyball head coach Lacey Lister has named three captains for the 2010 season. Seniors, defensive specialist/libero Traci Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern) and middle hitter Maria Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern) and junior outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) were named as the three captains for the Shorewomen.
Daelemans, the team's Most Improved Player in 2009, had 202 digs last year and added 33 service aces while playing in 25 matches. Entering the 2010 season, she had 238 digs and 48 service aces in 57 career matches. In four matches this season, she has added 15 digs and five aces.
Whitman had 77 kills and 33 blocks last season, while starting in all 26 matches a season ago. Coming into her senior season, she has 293 kills and 98 blocks in 80 career matches. This season she has 19 kills and a team-high five blocks in the squad's four matches.
Forget comes off of a sophomore season in 2009 where she had 185 kills and 137 digs as she played in all 26 matches, starting 23 times. She has netted 433 kills and tallied 231 digs in her first two years with the Shorewomen. In 2010 she has already pounded 21 kills, good for second on the team after four matches.
The Washington College volleyball team (1-3) opens its 2010 home and Centennial Conference slate on Tuesday evening with a 7:30 p.m. match against visiting Franklin & Marshall.
