CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Seniors April Weaver (Perrysburg, Ohio/Sturgis, Mich.) and Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) will serve as co-captains of the Washington College women's tennis team for the second year in a row, first-year head coach Jason Ringstad recently announced.
Weaver is already one of the most-decorated female tennis players in the College's history. She is the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Year and was chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2013. She is a three-time all-conference singles player (twice first-team, once second-team) and a three-time all-conference double player (twice first-team, once honorable mention). She is also a three-time Team Most Valuable Player, a four-time Centennial Conference Player of the Week, a two-time Shorewoman of the Week, a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, and a member of the 2015 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. She currently has a career singles record of 45-18 and a career doubles mark of 49-14.
McIntyre was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team for doubles each of the past two seasons and to the All-Centennial Conference second team for singles in 2014. She was the team's Co-Most Improved Player in 2013 and is a two-time Shorewoman of the Week. She owns a career singles record of 34-22 and a career doubles record of 37-22.
The Shorewomen are coming off a 15-3 overall and a 9-1 conference record during their 2015 campaign. They advanced to the championship match of the Centennial Conference Tournament. They will begin their 2016 dual-match schedule February 23rd at Mary Washington.
