YORK, Pa. -- The Washington College women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 non-conference win at York (Pa.) today. The Shorewomen are now 5-0 on the season, while the Spartans are 3-6.
In doubles, juniors Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and April Weaver (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) defeated Katie Wagner and Darian Naill, 8-4, at No. 1. The Shorewomen cruised to two wins at the bottom two doubles spots as freshmen Krista Filiopoulos (Millersville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and Julie Lazer (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh School) blanked Emily Price and Megan Jones, 8-0, at No. 2 and freshman Rachel Martinez (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) and junior Blair Kang (Gangnam, South Korea/Westhill [Conn.]) topped Emily Skutnik and Mckenzie Krout, 8-1, at No. 3.
Martinez beat Krout, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 singles and Filiopoulos bested Carter Vaughn, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 as the Shorewomen clinched the match. The match was then stopped as it was mutually agreed prior to its start to play only to decision.
The Shorewomen next play Wednesday when they host Ursinus in a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match.
