Weaver & McIntyre Win in Singles & Doubles
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Visiting Bryn Mawr College picked up its first Centennial Conference win of the season this afternoon, defeating host Washington College, 6-3, in a women's tennis match at Schottland Tennis Center. The Owls improved to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 3-7 and 0-6 with the loss.
Washington sophomores April Weaver (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Vivien Chen and Eliza Perocchi, but the Owls won at the other two doubles spots as Molly MacDougall and Kendall Baller beat sophomore Monica Benitez (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) and freshman Tricia Valerio (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South), 8-0, at No. 3 and Melina Koukoutchos and Jenny Vogel defeated senior Amy Stevens (Street, Md./North Harford) and junior Emily Evans (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), 8-1, at No. 2.
Bryn Mawr also won at the bottom four singles spots. Perocchi got the better of Evans, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3, Koukoutchos defeated Stevens, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4, Baller downed Valerio, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5, and Tirsa Delate blanked Benitez, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. The Shorewomen picked up wins at the top two spots as Weaver shut out Chen, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 and McIntyre trumped over Vogel, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at top-ranked Johns Hopkins.
