Finnegan Posts 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 1 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in Centennial Conference matches with a 7-2 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall this afternoon inside Johnson Fitness Center. 

The Shorewomen, who are ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) beat Megan FitzMaurice and Dana Sleeper, 8-4, at No. 1, while juniors Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) defeated Nina Simic and Anya Sahayddachny, 8-5, at No. 2. sophomores Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) were 8-2 winners over Shannon Littlefield and Naomi Smith at No. 3.

In singles, Finnegan breezed to a 6-0, 6-0, win over Danielle Weiner at No. 1, McNicol rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-1, win over Sahaydachny at No.2, and Daller beat FitzMaurice, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3. Cohen added a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 4, while Simic picked up a point for F&M at No. 5, beating Stevens, 6-1, 6-3.

Washington forfeited at No. 6 singles, because an ongoing injury to Bercovici limited her to singles play.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Swarthmore.
