SKILLMAN, NJ -- Washington College women's tennis players Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD), both rising seniors, have been named 2011 Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
This past spring, Finnegan was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team for singles and doubles for the third consecutive year. Marshall was named to the All-Centennial first team for doubles for the third consecutive year and the second team for singles for the second year in a row. Marshall was also named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.
Finnegan and Marshall went 18-2 at No. 1 doubles in the spring spring and 20-3 overall on the season, including matches at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in the fall. They went 9-1 in conference dual matches and finished the year ranked in a tie for 25th in all of Division III and seventh in the Atlantic South region.
Finnegan was 16-4 in singles matches in the spring spring - 5-1 at No. 1, 4-2 at No. 2, and 7-1 at No. 3. She was 8-2 in singles in conference dual matches. Marshall was 16-4 in singles matches in the spring - 6-0 at No. 1, 6-2 at No. 2, and 4-2 at No. 3. She went 9-1 in conference dual matches. Marshall finished the year ranked 25th in the region in singles.
