SOMERS, Wis. — Washington College junior Julia Portmann (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) has been selected as CollegeSwimming.com's Conference Swimmer of the Week for the Centennial Conference. Portmann played a role in four first-place finishes in a 1-1 week for the Shorewomen last week.
In a 138-64 win over Salisbury November 8th, Portmann won the 200 freestyle in 2:03.38 and swam lead-off in the winning 400 freestyle relay, which finished in 3:48.86. In a 134-71 loss to Swarthmore Saturday, she won both distance events by narrow margins for the Shorewomen. Her time of 10:56.44 in the 1000 freestyle won that event by 63 one-hundredths of a second, while her winning time in 500 freestyle was 5:20.06 for a margin of victory of 28 one-hundredths of a second. She was also second in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.24.
