Maxwell, Williamson Win Two Individual Events Each for Shorewomen
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) and freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) each won two individual events as the host Washington College women's swim team defeated visiting Widener, 166-96, tonight inside Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen evened their dual-meet record at 3-3 with the win, while the Pride fell to 3-5 with the loss.
Maxwell won both distance events, taking the 1000 freestyle in 11:11.67 and the 500 freestyle in 5:28.11, while Williamson swept the backstroke events by winning the 100 in 1:01.79 and the 200 in 2:16.29.
Freshman Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) won one individual event and took second in two others, winning the 100 butterfly in a Washington College season-best 1:03.73 and placing second in the 50 freestyle in 25.41 and the 100 freestyle in 55.49. Freshman Jennifer Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.96 and finished second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.65. Sophomore Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) won the 200 butterfly in 2:23.57 and was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.28. Freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) won the 200 individual medley in 2:21.13.
Senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) turned in a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:21.88, freshman Mackenzie Gaze (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.91, and freshman Allie Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./The Learning Community) took second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:25.23.
The Shorewomen won both relay events. Williamson, Clune, Gorman, and Howard won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.95, while Clune, Gaze, Williamson, and Maxwell won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:48.97.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. home non-conference meet against Elizabethtown.
