Maxwell Wins Pair of Events For Washington
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Gettysburg won nine of 14 events en route to a 164-98 win over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference women's swimming meet on Saturday afternoon at the Casey Swim Center. The Bullets improve to 2-0 overall and the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 1-2 and 0-2 respectively.
For Washington, sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) won a pair of events for the Shorewomen on the day. Maxwell captured the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:10.84 and won the 200 individual medley in 2:16.26. She also placed second in the 200 freestyle at 2:02.82.
Freshmen Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Md./Penn Manor) and Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) each won an individual event for WC on the day. Williamson won the 100 backstroke as she recorded the fourth-fastest time in Shorewomen history 1:01.39 and Gorman captured the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.77 seconds. Williamson had a second place finish in the 200 back (2:15.90) and Gorman had a second place individual finish in the 100 freestyle (56.18).
The Shorewomen won the 400 freestyle with the relay team of Gorman, Williamson, freshman Jenny Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington). They won the relay with a time of 3:47.66. The same quartet finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:56.19.
Clune was the top finisher for WC in the 100 breaststroke at 1:13.62 to place third in the event and freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) was third in the 200 breastroke at 2:39.22. Freshman Mackenzie Gaze (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was third in the 500 freestyle at 5:36.16 at the team's best finisher in the event.
Washington travels to in-state rival St. Mary's (Md.) on November 21 for a 5:30 p.m. meet.
