Clune & Maxwell Win Two Individual Events Each
SALISBURY, Md. -- Visiting Washington College cruised to its 28th consecutive win over host Salisbury University, 130-75, in non-conference women's swimming action this evening. The Shorewomen evened their 2014-15 record at 1-1 with the win, while the Sea Gulls dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
Freshman Jennifer Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) each won two individual events for Washington. Clune was first in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.57 and in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:21.35. Maxwell took the 200-meter individual medley in 2:32.08 and the 800-meter freestyle in 9:53.33. Maxwell was also second in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:44.86.
Freshman Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) won the 50-meter freestyle in 29.24 and placed second in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:03.05. Freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:09.57 and led off the winning 200-meter freestyle relay team as she teamed with freshman Mackenzie Gaze (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), freshman Ali Sanders (Dover, Del./Milford), and senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) to take first in 1:57.38.
Howard was also second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:17.87. Junior Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) added a second-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle in 10:25.35, sophomore Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) was second in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:37.07, and freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) placed second in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:22.60.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their home opener, a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet against Gettysburg.
