Miskiel Wins Pair of Medals to Lead Shorewomen at Centennial Championships

Shorewomen Finish Seventh Overall as a Team

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Senior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) medaled in both breaststroke events, winning gold in the 200, to lead the Washington College women's swim team at the 2014 Centennial Conference Championships, held Friday, yesterday, and today at Franklin & Marshall College. As a team, the Shorewomen placed seventh of eight teams at the event.

Miskiel won gold in the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.15, completing an undefeated season in that event. In the 100 breaststroke, she captured the silver medal in a WC season-best time of 1:07.94, bettering her own standing as the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She also finished 15th in the 50 freestyle in 25.20 after swimming a WC season-best time of 25.12 in the preliminaries to become the Shorewomen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Senior Carly Ogren (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) and sophomore Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) each scored points in three individual events for the Shorewomen. Ogren was 12th in the 200 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 1:59.55 to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, 13th in the 500 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 5:16.25 to become the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, and 14th in the 100 freestyle in 54.90 to take over the sole spot as the Shorewomen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Fritzinger was 12th in the 400 individual medley in 4:46.94 to become the Shorewomen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, 12th in 200 breaststroke in 2:33.23 to become the Shorewomen's eighth fastest swimmer ever in that event, and 13th in the 1650 freestyle in 18:59.57,

Freshman Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) was 10th in two events, becoming the Shorewomen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the 400 individual medley with her WC season-best time of 4:45.60 and becoming their sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the 1650 freestyle with her WC season-best time of 18:17.87. Freshman Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) placed 13th in the 400 individual medley in 4:48.96 to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event and 14th in the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best 2:16.57 to become the Shorewomen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Junior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) placed 13th in the 200 backstroke in 2:15.71 after swimming a WC season-best 2:15.59 in the preliminaries. She also led off the 400 medley relay with a WC season-best 1:01.13 100 backstroke leg, bettering her own standing as the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Freshman Angelina Tomasura (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) was 14th in the 100 butterfly, while freshman Jacquelyn Creitz (Schencksville, Pa./Parkland) added a 15th-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.15.

Four of the Shorewomen's five "A" relays swam season-best times at the meet. Miskiel, Howard, Maxwell, and Ogren were sixth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.81. Maxwell, Tomasura, Fritzinger, and junior Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) placed seventh in the 800 freestyle relay in 8:17.55. Howard, Miskiel, Tomasura, and Ogren were seventh in both the 200 medley and 400 medley in 1:54.60 and 4:06.55, respectively. In addition, Miskiel, Maxwell, Howard, and Ogren were seventh in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42.89. 

Ursinus won the meet to claim its first-ever Centennial Conference Championship in women's swimming.
