CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College won eight of 11 events en route to a 123-79 Centennial Conference women's swim meet over visiting Bryn Mawr tonight inside Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference meets with the win, while the Owls fell to 0-3 and 0-3 with the loss.
Juniors Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) and Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) each won two individual events for the Shorewomen. Miskiel captured the 200 individual medley in a Washington College season-best time of 2:21.29 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.26. Ogren won the 200 freestyle in a WC season-best 2:04.27 and the 100 freestyle in 56.89.
Senior Allison Kvien (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon), sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington), and freshman Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) each won one individual event. Kvien won the 1000 freestyle in 11:51.49, Howard the 100 backstroke in a WC season-best 1:06.85, and Fritzinger the 500 freestyle in 5:44.37. Howard was also second in the 50 freestyle in 26.74, while Fritzinger was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.15.
The Shorewomen won the opening event of the meet as Howard, Miskiel, senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest), and Ogren captured the 200 medley relay in 2:00.48. Sykes was also second in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.48. Sophomore Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) placed second in both the 200 freestyle in 2:09.01 and the 500 freestyle in 5:44.78. Sophomore Clair Belleveau (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) turned in a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.81.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Franklin & Marshall.
