Miskiel Leads Shorewomen at Centennial Champs with Two Fourth-Place Finishes

GETTYSBURG, PA -- Sophomore Elizabeth Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) finished fourth in both breaststroke events to lead the Washington College women's swim team at the Centennial Conference Championships, held Friday, yesterday, and today at Gettysburg College. The Shorewomen finished seventh of eight teams in the final team standings.

Miskiel's fourth-place time of 2:28.64 in the 200 breaststroke was a Washington College season-best and made her the Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the event. Her fourth-place time in the 100 breaststroke was 1:09.71; she swam a WC season-best 1:09.04 in the preliminaries of the event. She also added a 13th-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.54 after swimming a WC season-best 2:17.80 in the preliminaries.

Miskiel joined senior Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), sophomore Hilary Badger (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales), and freshman Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) for a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay - the Shorewomen's top relay finish. Their time of 1:41.98 was a WC season-best.

Badger added a 10th-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.10 after swimming a WC season-best 1:02.97 in the preliminaries. She was 12th in the 50 freestyle in 25.56 after swimming a WC season-best 25.41 in the preliminaries.

Junior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern-Valley Demarest) finished 10th in the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best 2:18.68 to become the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the event. She placed 11th in the 400 individual medley in 4:54.56 after becoming the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event with a WC season-best 4:54.39 in the preliminaries. She also finished 16th in the 500 freestyle in a WC season-best 5:27.25.

Junior Allison Kvien (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon) placed 14th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.16 and 15th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:40.07. Freshman Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) placed 14th in the 1650 freestyle in a WC season-best 19:10.81. She also swam a WC season-best time of 2:01.74 in the 200 freestyle, finishing 18th in the preliminaries.  Howard took 13th in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.19 after swimming a WC season-best 2:17.11 in the preliminaries. She was also 16th in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.52.
