Glasser Qualifies for NCAA Division III Championships at F&M Invitational

Senior Wins Three Individual Events; Shorewomen Take Three Relays

LANCASTER, PA -- Senior Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, won three individual events, and swam on three first-place relay teams as the Washington College women's swim team finished sixth of 10 teams overall at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational, held yesterday and today.

Glasser's winning time of 2:04.36 in the 200 butterfly, her final event, met the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held March 23-26 in Knoxville, TN. Earlier in the meet, she swam provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Championships in winning the 500 freestyle in 5:00.88 and the 100 butterfly in 57.70. She also swam an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 1650 freestyle as an exhibition entrant in 17:20.56. All of her individual times were Washington College season best times, as was her 200 freestyle lead-off of 1:54.59 in the 800 freestyle relay.  That time was also a personal-best.

Glasser swam the anchor leg, following freshman Elizabeth Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard),  freshman Hilary Badger (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales), and junior Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) as the Shorewomen won the 200 freestyle relay in a WC season-best time of 1:38.78 to open the meet.  The same four Shorewomen also swept the medley relays with Badger swimming backstroke, Moore breaststroke, Glasser butterfly, and Miskiel freestyle.  They won the 400 medley relay in a WC season-best time of 4:02.33 and the 200 medley relay in a WC season-best time of 1:50.21.

Moore finished second in a pair of individual events in WC season-best times. Her second-place time of 1:06.95 in the 100 breaststroke was also a personal best. She was second in the 50 freestyle in 24.65 and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 55.35.

Badger was ninth in the 50 freestyle in 25.42 to become the Shorewomen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Miskiel was 10th in the same event in a personal-best 25.53 and was also ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.80.

Glasser, Moore, junior Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge), and Miskiel were fifth in the 800 freestyle relay in 8:14.81.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference home meet against Widener.
