SWARTHMORE, PA -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team has qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2003.
The Shorewomen, who finished their regular season with a 13-12 loss at Swarthmore Thursday, got good news today as Swarthmore lost to visiting Haverford, 9-8, on the final day of conference play. Swarthmore's loss created a two-way tie for fifth place in the final conference standings as both Washington and Dickinson finished at 4-5. (Swarthmore finished at 3-6.). The Shorewomen won the head-to-head regular season meeting against Dickinson, breaking the tie for fifth and giving Washington the fifth and final seed in the conference tournament. A Swarthmore victory today would have given Swarthmore the fifth seed in a three-way tie for fifth.
The Shorewomen will play at fourth-seeded Haverford in the tournament's first round game on Wednesday with the winner of that contest advancing to a semifinal game at top-seeded Franklin & Marshall one week from today.
