Bears Hold Off Shorewomen, 63-52

Krahling and Grundy Tally 13 Points and Weir Chips In With 11 Points

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Host Ursinus got a game-high 16 points from Caroline Shimrock on its way to a 63-52 victory over visiting Washington College at Helfferich Hall in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game on Monday evening.

How It Happened
-Brynne Brouse gave Washington its first lead of the game at 8-7 with 4:25 to go in the first quarter on a jumper.
-The Bears responded by scoring the last eight points of the first quarter to take a 15-8 lead at the end of the first.  Libby Lannon rounded out the scoring on a free throw with 31 seconds left.
-Ursinus capped its 16-0 run spanning both quarters on a pair of Jessica Porada free throws with 6:04 to go in the second quarter to lead 23-8 on its way to a 31-13 halftime lead.
-The Shorewomen, who would trail by as many as 24 points at 50-26 with 1:02 left in the third quarter, went on a 23-10 run to cut the Bears lead to 60-49 with 2:26 left on a three-pointer by Alexis Krahling.
-WC would get it within 11 points on two other occasions, but could not draw any closer.

For The Shorewomen (3-18, 0-15 CC)
-Krahling (13 points on 6-for-9 shooting), Ali Grundy (13 points), Jordan Weir (11 points), Emily Thiemann (three blocks to lead all players)

For Ursinus (10-11, 9-6 CC)
-Shimrock (game-best 16 points), Porada (14 points), Alyssa Polimeni (12 points, game-high six assists and contest-best three steals), Elana Roadcloud (game-best 10 rebounds)
-The Bears outrebounded Washington 41-35.
-Turned it over just four times in the contest.
