Grundy, Moore Lead Shorewomen in Win
BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- The Washington College women's basketball team moved over the .500 mark on the season with a sizable 70-32 win over host Bryn Mawr College tonight. The Shorewomen improved to The Owls fell to 0-4 with the loss.
The Shorewomen jumped out to a 34-16 halftime lead thanks, in part, to a 10-2 spurt that saw freshman forward/center Katherine Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) knock down shots on four consecutive Washington possessions to build a 32-12 advantage with 2:40 left in the period. An 18-3 run in the second half gave the Shorewomen their largest lead of the game at 42 points with under two minutes to play.
Moore finished with career highs of 14 points and eight rebounds. Her eight boards were also a game high. Sophomore guard Ali Grundy (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) led all scorers with her career-high 16 points, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Senior guard Emily Hubley (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) added 11 points for the Shorewomen. Washington shot 46% from the field and 74% from the free-throw line, held a 34-29 advantage on the boards, and forced 29 Bryn Mawr turnovers in the win.
Kara Breeden led the Owls with six points in the loss. Bryn Mawr shot 27% from the field and 54% from the free-throw line.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with their Centennial Conference opener, a 6:00 p.m. home game against Haverford.
