Pledger Tallies A Double-Double With 10 Points and 10 Rebounds
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Host McDaniel topped visiting Washington College, 70-41, on Thursday evening in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game at the Gill Center. The Green Terror improve to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen drop to 5-13 and 4-8 respectively.
After the teams exchanged baskets, McDaniel took control of the game with a 7-0 run to make it 9-2 with 15:31 left in the first half on two free throws by Emma Wingerd as she scored five of the seven points. After a Washington basket by sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) cut the lead to 9-4 with 15:12 left in the first half, the Green Terror scored eight straight points to make it 17-4 with 11:36 remaining in the first on a Lindsey Nichols three-pointer. Nichols scored five of the eight points during the run. Senior forward Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) ended the run with a layup with 11:17 remaining to cut it to 17-6, but the Green Terror outscored the Shorewomen the rest of the half by an 18-5 score to take a 35-11 lead into halftime.
The Green Terror outscored the Shorewomen in the second half, 35-30. McDaniel led by as many as 35 points at 53-18 with 12:59 to go in the game on a Nichols trey.
Nichols had 13 points to lead all players for the Green Terror. Steph Perez added 11 points, while Brittney Davis chipped in with 10 points. Karli Zeps grabbed eight rebounds to lead McDaniel. Perez and Nichols each had three assists to tie for game-best, while Codi McMaster tallied a game-high three steals. McDaniel shot 40% from the floor (25-for-62), 29% from three-point range (4-for-14) and 80% from the foul line (16-for-20). McDaniel held a 45-41 edge on the boards and turned it over just 14 times, while Washington coughed it up 22 times and held a 21-9 advantage in points off of turnovers. The hosts had a 30-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 26-13 cushion in second chance points.
Pledger had her fifth double-double of the year with a team-high 10 points and a contest-best 10 rebounds. Junior guard Emily Hubley (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) had three assists to tie for game-high. Washington shot 26% from the floor (14-for-53), 20% from three-point land (2-for-10) and 52% from the free throw stripe (11-for-21).
The Shorewomen are back on the court this Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against visiting Dickinson in a Centennial Conference game.
