GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Host Gettysburg College improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference play with a 52-44 win over visiting Washington College in women's basketball action this afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa.
Gettysburg took a 26-17 lead into halftime, holding the Shorewomen to 8-for-36 shooting from the field in the first half. The Bullets scored the first eight points of the second half to build a 34-17 advantage with 16:49 remaining. Washington then went on a 19-6 run, cutting the lead to 40-36, on a jumper by senior forward Erin Fitzgerald (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuiness) with 9:55 left. Gettysburg held the Shorewomen off the scoreboard for the next 8:50, however, while scoring 10 points of its own to take a commanding 50-36 lead. After that, the Bullets maintained a double-digit lead until less than a minute left in the game.
Caroline Murphy led the Bullets with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Emily Duggan added 15 points and seven boards, while Rianna Doane scored 13 points and swiped five steals.
Junior guard Emily Hubley (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) had a team-high 12 points for the Shorewomen, while Pledger finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Gettysburg shot 20-for-55 from the field in the game to Washington's 18-for-65. The Bullets also held a 44-37 advantage in rebounds.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game at Catholic.
