Kile, Pledger Post Double-Doubles in Loss
WESTMINSTER, MD -- Host McDaniel College ended the first half on a 12-2 run to take a 12-point halftime lead en route to a 62-54 Centennial Conference women's basketball win over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Westminster, MD.
The Green Terror (3-11, 3-8 Centennial) held a 21-19 lead with under six minutes to go in the opening period before going on their big run, which was capped off by a pair of free throws from Cara Thompson with 19 seconds left before the intermission. McDaniel led by as many as 15 points in the second half before the Shorewomen (5-9, 3-6) closed to within four points on a three-pointer by freshman guard Katie Bay (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) with 3:16 left in the game. The Shorewomen could get no closer, however, as McDaniel held on for the win.
Kim Action scored 10 points, grabbed a team-best 10 boards, and swiped a game-high seven steals in the win for the Green Terror. Cara Thompson added a game-best 15 points and eight rebounds, while Whitney Snoops had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore center Erin Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) scored 12 points and hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss for Washington. Freshman forward/center Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River) also posted a double-double, contributing 12 points and 10 boards, while junior guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) finished with 10 points, a game-high six assists, and five rebounds.
Washington held a 52-44 advantage on the boards, but shot just 24% from the field for the game, while McDaniel shot 34%. The Shorewomen also turned the ball over 19 times to McDaniel's 11.
The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr.
