CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Washington College trap and skeet team (WCTS) has announced its captains for the 2019-20 season: Savannah Ross (Lewes, Del./Sussex Tech), Will Sears (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert), Lanning Tyrrel (Lavina, Mont./Lavina), and Jordan Ukishima (Frederick, Md./Urbana). Ross and Ukishima will be seniors in the fall, while Sears and Tyrrel will be sophomores.
Ross was voted by her peers as the 2019 ACUI Best Sportswoman at the 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships. After competing in Class C the year before, Ross qualified for Class B at the 2019 ACUI Championships and tied for 48th in Sporting Clays in her class. Ross is on track to graduate from Washington College this coming December.
Sears was named his team's MVP as a freshman after putting together the team's highest overall score at the 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships and finishing tied for 259th in the men's high overall standings. He tied for ninth in International Trap and 55th in Super Sporting in Class A.
Tyrrel was named his team's Co-Most Improved as a freshman. He tied for 13th in International Skeet and tied for 15th in American Skeet in Class B at the 2019 ACUI Championships.
Ukishima was named Shoreman of the Week this past March after finishing third among men and fourth overall at the Blue Hen Classic. He moved up from Class B to Class A at the 2019 ACUI Championships, tying for 64th in International Trap and 65th in International Skeet in that class.
The 2018-19 season marked the first year of WCTS competing as a full varsity sport at Washington College.
