Washington College Sailing 17th at Atlantic Coast Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Washington College sailing team wrapped up its fall 2013 season by finishing 17th of 18 teams at the Atlantic Coast Tournament, hosted by Connecticut College, this weekend.

In A Division, freshman skipper Matt McDermaid (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) sailed with freshman crew Karlyn Long (Louisville, Colo./Fairview) and junior crew Blair Towers (Goochland, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) to place 17th. In B Division, freshman skipper Hannah Schmidt (Trappe, Md/Easton) sailed with sophomore crew Siobhan Ryan (Aberdeen, N.J./St. John Vianney) and freshman crew Alex Smith (Wantagh, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) to finish 16th.

Rhode Island won the Atlantic Coast Tournament, followed by 17th-ranked Vermont in second and Cornell in third. Sailors battled trying conditions all weekend as just four races were completed in each division.
