GENEVA, NY -- The Washington College sailing team finished eighth of eight teams at the Prosser Trophy - the MAISA Team Race Championships - hosted this weekend in Geneva, NY, by Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Washington compiled a 1-13 head-to-head race record in the double-round robin competition, winning a race against Cornell.
Sophomore Ryan Bailey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), senior Sam Bedinger (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's), junior Sam Fitzgerald (Fairfield, CT/Greens Farms Academy), and freshman Eric Siegel (Kilmarnock, VA/Christchurch School) served as skippers for Washington. Freshman Alex Crawford (Annapolis, MD/Severna Park), senior Matt Lawler (Alexandria, VA/Christchurch School), and sophomore Blair Towers (Goochland, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) served as crews.
Third-ranked Georgetown won the Prosser Trophy with a 12-2 record. Seventh-ranked St. Mary's was second, also at 12-2, while 10th-ranked Navy was third at 10-4. Georgetown beat St. Mary's in both of their head-to-head races.
Twenty-two of the regatta's 56 races sailed on Saturday; the remaining 34 sailed on Sunday.
The Washington College sailing team returns to action next weekend at the America Trophy - the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Championships - hosted by Navy and at the MAISA Spring Open, hosted by Merchant Marine.
