ST. MARY'S CITY, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished 12th of 14 teams at the MAISA Women's Fall Championships, hosted by St. Mary's College, this weekend.
Sophomore skipper Eleanor Conroy (West Dennis, MA/Tabor Academy) and senior crew Maggie Smith (Annapolis, MD/Garrison Forest) placed 13th in A Division. Freshman skipper Siobhan Ryan (Aberdeen, NJ/St. John Vianney) sailed with freshman crew Alex Crawford (Annapolis, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore crew Blair Towers (Goochland, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) to finish 12th in B Division.
Navy, ranked second in the latest Sailing World National Women's Top 15, won the MAISA Fall Women's Championships, followed by 10th-ranked St. Mary's in second and 14th-ranked Cornell in third. Eleven A Division and 10 B Division races sailed on Saturday in a brisk Northwesterly. The remaining three A Division and four B Division races were completed early on Sunday.
Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional and Georgetown's Tom Curtis Memorial. In addition, sophomore Ryan Bailey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) will compete at the Carl Van Duyne Trophy - the MAISA Men's Singles Championship - hosted by Navy.
