ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished 12th of 16 teams at the Graham Hall Team Race, hosted by Navy, this weekend.
The full 16-team field sailed a full round robin on Saturday. Washington went 3-12 in that round robin. The top eight finishing teams advanced to Sunday's gold fleet, while the eight remaining teams, including Washington, sailed in Sunday's silver fleet. Washington went 5-2 in the silver fleet to finish fourth in the fleet and 12th overall with a total head-to-head record of 8-14.
The top four teams from the gold fleet moved on to a final-four round robin. Seventh-ranked Georgetown and top-ranked Roger Williams each finished with a total head-to-head record of 20-5; Georgetown took first place overall by virtue of beating Roger Williams in the final-four round robin. Second-ranked College of Charleston (18-7) and 15th-ranked Boston College (16-9) finished third and fourth, respectively. The top 11 finishing teams, as well as 13th-place Wisconsin were all currently ranked in the latest Sailing World ICSA Co-Ed Top 20.
Senior Mike Whitford (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School), sophomore Sam Fitzgerald (Fairfield, CT/Greens Farms Academy), senior Mildred Conroy (Newton, MA/Tabor Academy), and freshman Ryan Bailey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) served as Washington's skippers.
