CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College head sailing coach Josh Putnam has announced that senior skipper Mildred Conroy (Newton, MA/Tabor Academy) and junior crew Matt Lawler (Alexandria, VA/Christchurch School) will serve as the team's captains for the 2011-12 season.
Conroy and Lawler were two big reasons why Washington advanced to the Intercollegiate Sailing Associaiton (ICSA) Co-Ed Dinghy National Semifinals for the fourth year in a row last spring. The team needed a top-eight finish at the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Championships, to qualify and Conroy drove Washington to a sixth-place finish in B Division to lift WC to an eighth-place finish overall. Lawler was Conroy's crew for eight of her 17 B Division races.
Conroy has turned in a total of five top-five divisional finishes during her collegiate sailing career and has sailed in two ICSA Semifinal regattas. Lawler was named the team's Most Valuable Sailor a year ago, has 12 career top-five divisional finishes to his credit, and has also sailed in two ICSA Semifinal regattas.
