Fours Lead Way for Shoremen at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Washington College men's rowing team opened its fall schedule today at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia. The Shoremen had two boats place in the top half in the men's collegiate four to highlight the day.

Washington's "A" boat finished eight of 23 boats in 15:18.50, while the "B" boat was 11th in 15:25.29. The Shoremen's two fours were the only two boats from non-Division I schools to finish in the top 17 spots in the race. University of Pennsylvania's "B" boat won the race in 14:13.20. Saint Joseph's "A," "B," and "C" boats finished in sports two, three, and four, respectively. 

Washington finished 14th of 28 boats in the men's collegiate frosh/novice eight in 14:28.66, the only non-Division I school boat in the top 20. Penn's "A" boat won the race in 12:54.54. 

The Shoremen were 24th of 27 in the men's open collegiate eight in 14:24.13. Penn's "A" boat also won that race in 12:11.81. 

Junior John Gould (Litchfield, Conn./The Gunnery) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "A" boat in the men's collegiate four. Sophomore Zee Ali (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, sophomore Stuart Grosvenor (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) was in the three seat, sophomore Teddy Connell (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) as in the two seat, and junior Mark Boissonneault (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) was the bow.

Freshman Kelly Valette (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "B" boat in the men's collegiate four. Sophomore Alexander Blue (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) sat stroke, senior Jack Christ (Hydes, Md./Jemicy Upper School) was in the three seat, junior Sean Haynie (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall) was in the two seat, and freshman Joe Stockburger (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) was the bow.

Sophomore Isabelle Ryan (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's men's open/collegiate eight. Junior Nathaniel Giblin (Cazenovia, N.Y./St. Johnsbury Academy [Vt.]) sat stroke, senior Ben Sproule (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was in the seven seat, junior T. Ian Flinn (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) was in the six seat, Christ was in the five seat, sophomore Theo Aris (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) sat in the four seat, sophomore Brady Bosworth (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) sat in the three seat, freshman Chris Eggstein (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) was in the two seat, and junior Max Van Hoven (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) was the bow.

Freshman Tori Swanson (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's men's collegiate frosh/novice eight. Freshman Ethan LaLumia (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) sat stroke, freshman Steven McDonnell (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) was in the seven seat, freshman Brandon Montague (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) sat in the six seat, freshman Jeffrey Wrobel (Henrico, Va./home school) was in the five seat, freshman Samson Ramasamy (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was in the four seat, freshman Toby Puleo (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) sat in the three seat, freshman Anders Larson (Waterville, N.Y./Waterville) was in the two seat, and sophomore Joey Erlandson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) was the bow. 

The Shoremen return to action next Saturday at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
