Frosh/Novice Four, Two Varsity Fours Win Respective Races
CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The Washington College men's rowing team recorded three first-place finishes at today's Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Shoremen's frosh/novice four and two varsity fours all won their respective races.
Junior Robert Storck (Wilton, CT/St. Mark's School [MA]) and sophomore Dominic DiMarino (Wilmington, DE/Concord) opened the day for the Shoremen with a second place finish in the five-boat men's open double. Storck and DiMarino finished in 8:15.29. Cooper Rowing Club won the race in 7:35.03, Loyola's "A" and "B" boats were third (8:24.97) and fourth (8:37.06), respectively, and Maryland was fifth in 9:33.09.
The Shoremen's frosh/novice four then won its six-boat race, finishing in 7:17.51. Marietta's "B" boat was second in 7:22.49, Scranton was third in 7:29.68, The College of New Jersey fourth in 7:51.60, UMBC fifth in 8:27.19, and Haverford's "B" boat sixth in 9:00.25.
Freshman Christie Phebus (Trappe, MD/Easton) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's boat in the college men's frosh/novice four. Freshman Tyler Skibicki (Wilmington, DE/Concord) sat stroke, freshman Andy Sauthoff (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) was in the three seat, freshman Ian Briggs (Huntsville, AL/The Gow School [NY]) was in the two seat, and freshman Brian Zohorsky (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) was the bow.
The Shoremen's A" boat in the college men's four won its four-boat race in 7:17.70, defeating three boats from Division I schools. Maryland was second in 7:26.48, Lafayette third in 7:39.95, and Stony Brook fourth in 7:47.16. Washington's "B" boat in the same event won a three-boat race in 7:25.40, beating out Drexel's "B" boat (7:43.12) and Lafayette's "B" boat (7;56.96).
Junior Jeff Nutting (Catonsville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "A" boat in the college men's four. Storck sat stroke, junior Parker McIntosh (Berlin, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the three seat, senior Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) sat in the two seat, and senior Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazelton Area [PA]) was the bow.
Sophomore Becca Wozniak (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's "B" boat in the college men's four. Sophomore Blake Weishaar (Denton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) sat stroke, sophomore Nick Stewart (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) was in the three seat, junior Kyle Benk (Bloomsburry, NJ/Phillipsburg) was in the two seat, and sophomore Conor Howlett (Tampa, FL/H.B. Plant) was the bow.
A fourth-place finish for the lightweight eight capped off the Shoremen's day. Washington finished the six-boat race in 6:40.62. Marietta won the race in 6:25.69, New York Maritime was second in 6:33.59, Lafayette third in 6:38.02, Delaware fifth in 7:13.68, and Stony Brook sixth in 7:47.31.
Sophomore Chris Moylan (Silver Spring, MD/DeMatha) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's boat in the college men's lightweight eight. Sophomore Colin Mitchell (Burlingame, CA/Burlingame) sat stroke, junior Mitch Witherow (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) was in the seven seat, junior Aric Charowsky (Townsend, DE/St. Thomas More Prep) was in the six seat, sophomore Anthony Cairo (Port Murray, NJ/Warren Hills) sat in the five seat, junior Lawrence Baker (Shady Side, MD/Southern) sat in the four seat, sophomore Max Villa (Great Meadows, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was in the two seat, and DiMarino was the bow.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta in Cherry Hill, NJ.
