Shoremen Lacrosse Sweeps Centennial Conference Player of the Week Awards

Cloud Wins Defensive Player of the Week and Grieves Captures Offensive Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington College has swept the Centennial Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Awards for men's lacrosse for the week of February 12-18.  Senior long-stick midfielder Sam Cloud (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) earned the conference's defensive player of the week honor, while junior attackman Casey Grieves (Easton, Md./Sts. Peter and Paul) captured the offensive player of the week.

Cloud, who won the award for the first time, had a career-high four caused turnovers and picked up seven ground balls in the Shoremen's 16-7 victory against Birmingham-Southern. He contributed to seven Washington College goals either causing a turnover or picking up the ground ball that started the offensive series that led to a score.  The last Washington player to earn the Centennial's Defensive Player of the Week Award prior to Cloud was senior goalie Ben Flood, who garnered the award on March 6, 2017.

Grieves, the first Shoreman to capture the conference's offensive player of the week since JD Campbell '14 won it on April 21, 2014, earned the weekly award for the first time in his career.  Grieves posted career-highs in goals (5) and points (7) as the Shoremen opened the season with a 16-7 triumph against Birmingham-Southern.  Three of his tallies came in the first half as WAC sprinted out to a 7-3 halftime lead and he scored five of the team's first 12 goals.  Both of his assists came in the fourth quarter as he helped on two of the Shoremen's four scores.
