Twelve Players Score in Win for Washington
DOVER, DE -- Visiting Washington College jumped out to an 8-0 lead through one quarter en route to a 20-1 non-conference men's lacrosse men over visiting Wesley College this afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium in Dover, DE.
The Shoremen (2-2) fired off 20 shots in their eight-goal first quarter to only three for the Wolverines (0-4). Twelve different Shoremen scored at least one goal in the win. The 20 goals for Washington are its most since a 20-5 win over Kean on February 24, 2008. The 19-goal margin of victory is the Shoremen's largest since a 19-0 win over Ursinus on March 19, 2003.
Junior attackman Bennett Cord (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) led Washington with four goals and one assist, all in the first half. Senior midfielder Tom Rixey (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) added three goals and one assist, while junior attackman Matt Lewis (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg Country School) scored three goals of his own. Sophomore midfielder Hunter Nowicki (Baltimore, MD/Franklin) added two goals and one assist, while senior attackman Dominic Serio (Finksburg, MD/Mount St. Joseph), freshman attackman Ryan Coakley (Flemington, NJ/Immaculata), and freshman midfielder Adam Smith (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each had one goal and one assist.
Sophomore attackman Jim Cusick (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall), sophomore midfielder Kodie Englehart (Coronado, CA/Coronado), freshman attackman Stephen Luck (Catonsville, MD/Boys' Latin), senior midfielder Dave Lundquist (West Chester, PA/Henderson), and freshman attackman Grant Hughes (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) scored one goal each. Sophomore attackman JD Campbell (Baltimore, MD/Mount St. Joseph) tallied two assists, while junior midfielder Patrick Coyle (Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall), sophomore midfielder Sam Eckerson (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde), sophomore midfielder Ryan Polak (Cincinnati, OH/Ridgewood [NJ]), and freshman midfielder Michael Trapp (White Plains, NY/White Plains) each had one assist.
Trapp also went 6-for-7 on face-offs with eight groundballs, while freshman midfielder Raymond Circo (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) was 9-for-11 with four ground balls. Senior goalie Peter Stewart (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) made three saves and allowed no goals in the first half for Washington. Sophomore goalie Ted DiSalvo (Boca Raton, FL/South River) played the next 22:05 and made five saves while allowing one goal.
Eric Crumbock scored the Wolverines' goal.
The Shoremen finished the game with a 49-22 advantage in shots and a 53-37 edge in ground balls.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. home game against Catholic.
