ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Synapse Sports has named Washington College freshman forward Kailyn Brandt (White Hall, Md./Hereford) to its Division III Field Hockey All-Rookie Team. She is one of 16 freshmen nationwide named to the team and the only one from the Centennial Conference.
Last month, Brandt became the first Shorewoman to earn Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year honors in field hockey and the first Shorewoman to be named to an All-Region Team in their freshman season (All-South Region second team). She was also named to the All-Centennial Conference first team, becoming just the seventh field hockey freshman in the conference's history to land on the first team.
Brandt scored 10 goals on 56 shots and tallied six assists for a total of 26 points this season. All four of those numbers led her team. She finished second in the Centennial Conference in assists, seventh in both goals and points, and eighth in shots.
Brandt helped lead a resurgent season for the Shorewomen under first-year head coach Anne Kietzman. After going 6-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play in 2016, this year's Shorewomen turned in a 9-9 overall mark and a 6-4 league record. They qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time in three years and hosted the tournament's first-round game as the number-four seed.
