Dudley Scores Game's Only Goal
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Visiting Washington College defeated host Haverford College, 1-0, in a key Centennial Conference field hockey game tonight in Haverford, Pa. The Shorewomen improved to 12-4 overall and moved back over the .500 mark in league play at 5-4 with the win. Haverford fell to 7-9 and 3-6 and was eliminated from conference tournament contention with the loss.
Each team got off seven shots and recorded three penalty corners in a scoreless first half. The Shorewomen broke through with 23:11 remaining in the game when sophomore midfielder Alli Dudley (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored her sixth goal of the season. The Shorewomen nearly made it 2-0 with 7:32 to go, but a shot by sophomore midfielder Allison Remenapp (Woodbine, Md./Century) was stopped by a defensive save from Brooke Kelly. Haverford's final shot came off the stick of Catherine Aronowitz and went wide with 3:44 on the clock.
The Shorewomen held a 15-13 advantage in shots in the game and a 9-6 edge in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) made seven saves in the shutout win for Washington. Lindsey Lopes made four saves in goal for the Fords in the loss.
The Shorewomen close out the regular season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against McDaniel. A win in that game, plus a Dickinson loss to Franklin & Marshall Saturday or a Johns Hopkins loss to Gettysburg Friday would clinch the Shorewomen a berth in the five-team Centennial Conference Tournament.
