LANCASTER, Pa. -- Fifth-ranked host Franklin & Marshall defeated visiting Washington College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon on Tylus Field. The Diplomats improved to 14-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 11-4 and 4-4 with the loss.
The Diplomats got on the board with 24:48 to play in the first half when Tamara Mills wove her way through traffic and found the back of the left side of the cage. F&M tacked on its second goal with 1:26 remaining in the opening half when Sarah Powell scored on a rebound.
Powell scored again with 11:51 to play in the game to seal the win for the Diplomats, tipping in a hard pass from Megan Kelly.
F&M held a commanding 31-3 advantage in shots and a 23-2 advantage in penalty corners in the game. Allie Morey made one save in goal for the Diplomats in the shutout, while junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) made a career-high eight in the loss for the Shorewomen.
The Shorewomen, who were out-scored by more than one goal for the first time all season, return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Haverford.
