Mitchell, Miller Score in Win for Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Host Washington College took a 2-0 halftime lead and held on for a 2-1 win over visiting Dickinson in a key Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon. The Shorewomen improved to 11-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils fell to 10-4 and 4-3 with the loss.

The Shorewomen broke a scoreless tie when junior defender Jordan Mitchell (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) scored off a rebound of her own shot with 10:06 left in the first half. Sophomore attack Jenn Miller (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) tacked on Washington's second goal when a deflection off a Dickinson defender went right to her in front of the goal and she flicked the ball into the back of the cage with 5:35 remaining in the period.

Dickinson cut the lead to 2-1 on a high shot by Catherine Perlmutter with 10:53 to go in the game, but did not register another shot the rest of the way as Washington preserved the win.

The Shorewomen held an 18-6 advantage in shots and a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners in the game. Junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) made one save in the win for Washington, while Mitchell made a defensive save. Emily Fuss made four saves in the loss for Dickinson.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against nationally-ranked Ursinus.
