Meder Tallies Two Hits For WC
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Swarthmore held off a bottom of the ninth inning rally by host Washington College to record a 3-2 win in a Centennial Conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened
-The Garnet struck in the top of the first inning with a two-out single to centerfield by Roy Walker that scored Wesley Fishburn to take a 1-0 lead.
-In the top half of the third, Swarthmore took advantage of a two-out error by the Shoremen to grab a 2-0 lead as Fishburn doubled to left to drive home Ryan Burnett. Burnett reached due to a dropped pop up Washington.
-The Shoremen loaded the bases in the last of the fifth, but Garnet starting pitcher Brian Gibbs got Bryan Baquer to strike out swinging to end the threat.
-Swarthmore, who left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, got another unearned run in the top of the eighth when Jackson Roberts singled to center to score Walker to make it 3-0 with two away.
-In the last of the ninth inning, Washington took advantage of two Swarthmore errors to cut the lead to 3-2. Aaron Barclay scored on a fielder's choice with one out to cut it to 3-1 and Evan Hirschbaum came home on a wild pitch to trim the lead to one run with two outs. With runners on the corners, Mike Pugh hit a ball between first and second that Conor Elliott was able to track down in the hole and throw to first to get Lozupone to end the ballgame.
For The Shoremen (17-5-1, 1-2 CC)
-Hitting: Charlie Meder (2-for-3, walk), Barclay (two walks, run)
-Pitching: Brian Kasey (loss 1-2, six innings, two runs, one earned, two walks, six strikeouts, one hit by pitch)
-WC had five hits, worked out five walks and left six on base.
-The Shoremen had three errors in the game, leading to a pair of unearned runs for Swarthmore.
For Swarthmore (17-10, 1-4 CC)
-Hitting: Fishburn (2-for-3, RBI, run, walk), Walker (2-for-4, run, RBI), Cal Barnett-Mayotte (3-for-3)
-Pitching: Brian Gibbs (win 3-2, five scoreless innings, five hits, two walks, eight strikeouts), Zach Gonzalez (save 1, 2/3 inning)
-The Garnet had nine hits, drew two walks and left seven stranded.
-Three errors by Swarthmore led to both of Washington's unearned runs.
-First win for Swarthmore at Washington since 2011.
