7 Up!: Shoremen Complete 7-0 Trip To South Carolina With 7-4 Victory Over Pioneers

D'Ostilio Goes 3-For-5 With Two Runs Scored In Win

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Washington College baseball team completed a perfect 7-0 trip to Myrtle Beach with a 7-4 victory over Alfred State at the Polo Grounds at the Ripken Experience on Thursday morning.  The Shoremen improve to 10-1-1 with the win, while the Pioneers fall to 0-10.

How It Happened
-The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out base hit to right by Nick Padley that drove in Robert Cardona.
-The Shoremen scored on a pair of errors to take a 2-1 lead in the last of the second inning.  Mike Pugh scored to tie the game with one out and Garrett Richardello came around to score with two outs.
-Alfred State responded with two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead.  Andy Pichardo singled home Cardona with nobody out to tie the game at 2-2 and Padley with one away came home on a passed ball to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead.
-WC knotted the game at 3-3 in the last of the third when Baquer scored on a one out fielder's choice.
-Washington took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs.  Ben Nelson scored on a single by Bryan Baquer with one out to make it 4-3 and Luke D'Ostilio made it 5-3 when he came home on a double by Evan Hirschbaum.  Baquer pushed the lead to three runs when he scored on an infield hit by Pugh at 6-3.
-In the top of the fifth, the Pioneers got a run back on a one out sacrifice fly by Rafael Perozo that drove in Padley.
-D'Ostilio restored WC's three-run lead when he scored on a fielder's choice to make it 7-4 in the last of the sixth.

For The Shoremen (10-1-1)
-Hitting: D'Ostilio (3-for-5, two runs), Baquer (2-for-3, two walks, two runs)
-Pitching: Nick Roberti (win 1-0, three innings, two walks, three strikeouts), Mike Bartels (save 1, two innings, one hit three strikeouts)
-The Shoremen bullpen did not allow a run in five innings of work.
-Washington had nine hits in the win and drew five walks.
-The Shoremen had one error in the field.

For Alfred State (0-10)
-Hitting: Cardona and Padley (2-for-4, two runs scored), Thomas Shofi (2-for-5)
-Pitching: Jake Remington (loss 0-2, four innings, six runs, two earned, five hits, three walks, three strikeouts)
-The Pioneers had 10 hits in the game, worked out four walks and were hit by a pitch three times.
-Alfred State committed five errors which led to four unearned runs.

Notes
-Washington is off to its best start since opening the 2012 season with a 13-1 mark.
