Ryan Normoyle '12 Signs Professional Baseball Contract

ROSWELL, NM -- Former Washington College baseball standout Ryan Normoyle '12 has signed a contract to play professional baseball with the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League for the upcoming 2013 season.

Normoyle was named the 2012 Centennial Conference Player of the Year, earning first-team All-Centennial, second-team ABCA All-Region, and third-team D3Baseball.com All-Region honors. During his senior season, he broke the single-season school records for runs (46), hits (60), total bases (97), stolen bases (40), and tied the single-season school records for triples (six) and at bats (149). He led the Centennial Conference in triples, total bases, and stolen bases in 2012 while also leading the team in hitting (.403), runs, doubles (16), home runs (3), slugging (.651), and on-base percentage (.471) and tying for the team lead in RBI (38).

Normoyle, who was also named to the All-Centennial Conference second team in 2010 and 2011 and to the ABCA All-Region third team in 2011, holds the school career records for hits (208), doubles (54), at bats (534), runs scored (138), RBI (139), total bases (341), stolen bases (94), and fielding assists (352). He was named the College's co-male winner of the Senior Athletic Award for 2012.

With Normoyle on the team, the Shoremen reached the Centennial Conference Tournament in 2010 and again in 2012, the first two times they had ever qualified for the tournament. In 2012, they won a school-record 28 games and advanced to the Conference Championship game for the first time ever.

Normoyle's play for the Elmira Pioneers in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League - a wood-bat summer league for collegiate players featuring mostly Division I student-athletes - during the summer of 2011 got him on the radar of professional baseball scouts. He hit .379 to share their league's batting crown, was named a starter for the West Division in the league's All-Star Game, and earned first-team All-League honors.

The Invaders are one of 10 teams in the Pecos League, an independent minor league. They will open their 2013 season May 17th against the Las Vegas Train Robbers.
