Wins Weekly Award for Second Time
Washington College senior pitcher Chris Smith (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) was selected the Centennial Conferece Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 15-21 as announced by the conference office on March 22. This is the second time he has won the award as he was also named pitcher of the week on March 16, 2009.
Smith won his lone start of the week in a 4-1 victory over Division I Coppin State in the second game of a doubleheader on March 17. He tossed a complete game four-hitter, allowing zero earned runs, did not walk a batter and struck out four Coppin State batters. Smith also did not allow a hit in the final three innings of the victory as the Shoremen completed the sweep of Coppin State.
Washington (5-4) returns to the field tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in its Centennial Conference opener against visiting Franklin & Marshall at Athey Baseball Park.
