CHESTERTOWN, MD - Frostburg State pitcher Freddy Foshay tossed a three-hit complete game shutout and the Bobcats' offense churned out 13 hits as visiting Frostburg State blanked host host Washington College, 13-0, on Saturday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park in the home opener for the Shoremen. The Bobcats improve to 12-5 on the season, while the Shoremen fall to 5-4.
Joe Garrity put the Bobcats on the board with a two-run single through the right side to put the visitors up 2-0 in the top of the first. Doug Anuszewski made it 3-0 on an RBI single that plated Matt Ridenour.
Frostburg State expanded its lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth when Anuszewski launched a two-out three-run home run to left field. The Bobcats tacked on five runs in the top of the sixth to grab an 11-0 lead. Ridenour's two-run double and Anuszewski's home run down the right field line highlighted the five-run outburst. The Bobcats added two more runs in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin.
Foshay struck out six batters in going the distance and improves to 2-1. He walked just one batter and gave up his two hits on back-to-back singles in the fourth inning. At the plate for the Bobcats, Anuszewski went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two home runs and two RBI. Garrity went 2-for-2 with three RBI in the win. Jeff Kroboth went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Ridenour crossed the plate three times while knocking in two and Joe Greene scored three times.
Senior Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) and sophomore John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum) each tallied a hit for Washington. On the mound, junior Paul McMannis (Arbutus, MD/Lansdowne) took the loss and falls to 0-2.
Washington, who had its four-game winning streak snapped, hosts Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Centennial Conference opener for both squads.
